Install Hot Elevator At Asphalt Mixing Plant
What is hot elevator?
The hot elevator or Hot aggregate elevator plays a crucial role in the asphalt production process, acts as a vertical conveyor system designed to handle and transport hot aggregates to the top of the mixing tower. This is a critical step in the asphalt production process. The hot aggregates, including materials like sand, gravel, and stones, are usually heated to the necessary temperature to ensure proper mixing. The elevator typically consists of a series of buckets or containers that are attached to a continuous conveyor belt or chain.
The design and operation of the hot elevator are crucial factors in the efficiency and effectiveness of the asphalt production process. Regular maintenance and monitoring are essential to prevent any disruptions and to uphold the quality of the asphalt mix. Additionally, safety measures must be observed to protect personnel and maintain a safe working environment within the asphalt plant
These buckets scoop up the hot aggregates at the bottom of the elevator and carry them vertically to the top of the mixing tower, where they are then released into the screen unit. This controlled and continuous transport of aggregates is essential for maintaining a steady flow of materials, ensuring a consistent mix, and ultimately producing high-quality asphalt.

Drying drum for AMMANN asphalt mixing plant
Full-service project starting with consultation and planning, through manufacturing, to assembly, commissioning
Dryers drums in industrial processes, such as asphalt production, come in two main air-flow configurations: co-current and counter-current. In a batch asphalt mixing plant, the drying drum is responsible for heating and drying the cold and wet aggregates, such as sand, gravel, and stones.
The aggregates are conveyed into the drying drum and tumbled while being exposed to hot air from a burner system. Optimal drying conditions are achieved as the heat removes moisture from the aggregates.
Proper operation and maintenance of the drying drum are essential for the overall efficiency of the asphalt plant. Regular inspections inside and outside the drum, cleaning, lubrication and adjustments are necessary to ensure that the drying process is consistent. Additionally, environmental considerations, such as dust control, are important for the sustainable and responsible operation of an asphalt plant.
It is important to carefully control the temperature in the drying drum. Maintaining the correct temperature is crucial to ensure even heating of the aggregates and achieving the desired temperature for effective mixing with the asphalt binder. Some dryers feature a middle ring feed system that permits the addition of up to 40% reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) material. The drying drum's insulation is made of mineral wool to reduce heat loss, the thermal radiation and minimize noise emissions. Certain drying drums use air as an alternative insulation medium.
